HONEY IS UNREFINED
Arbutus (Strawberry tree) honey from Dodoni Region, in Epirus Greece.
Arbutus “bitter honey” is a highly medicinal honey, also known as Strawberry Tree honey.
It comes from southern Greece, from the region called Dodoni in Epirus. It has an unusual bitter/sweet multi layered taste. Some people describe its taste as bitter caramel.
Arbutus honey contains powerful phenolic acids. It is one of the most antioxidant as well as antibacterial honeys in the world.
Crystallization of this honey is very quick.
In Greece, apiculture does not involve the intense exploitation of bees and organised monocultures of mass produced, low cost & low quality honey.
Due to the dry climate of Greece, honey has low water content and therefore it is slightly processed.
This has as a result a more aromatic, more dense and richer in flavours and ingredients honey.
