In Ampelofyto of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestoros, east of the region of Messinia, is the three generations family business Karambotsos. The company is dedicated to the production of a superior quality extra virgin olive oil from its own olive groves but also with cooperating producers, exceeding a capacity of over 1,500 tons, among the most important in Greece.
Ampelophyto (ampeli = vineyard in Greek), is located at an altitude of 300 meters and derives its name from the once extensive cultivation of vines which was replaced in modern times by the cultivation of olive trees. The area is characterized by a particularly rich natural terrain as the combination of semi-mountainous areas with an abundance of water, a short distance from the shores of the Ionian Sea with mild temperatures throughout the year, creating a special microclimate with fertile soils and rich rural crops.
Following the strictest practices required by organic farming with the certification of BIO HELLAS, namely the timely harvest, careful sorting and organization of production (FIFO system), olive extraction in a modern mill on the day of the harvest with the cold pressed method and immediate filtering and storage in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, ensures excellent quality and lifespan of the final product. The production unit is ISO 22000:2005 certified as well as HACCP for the production, storage and distribution of food.
The variety cultivated, for the production of Fresko Organic EVOO is Mavrolia.
