Thyme honey “Artemis” is a product of exclusive quality and nutritional value, collected by beekeepers in the island Leros and standardized in the laboratory of honey processing and packaging, of the “KoiSPE”.Since then, KoiSPE, with the help of the local Leros Beekeepers’ Cooperative, collects around 60% of the island’s honey production.
The honey is processed and standardized following the ISO 22000 / HACCP, and promoted to the market under the trademark “ARTEMIS” (Leros was the island of goddess Artemis). Honey from Leros, according to the analytic results of the
“Laboratory of Honey Analysis in Southern Aegean District”, has high density in thyme pollen (41%).
This honey combines the tonic and antiseptic properties of thyme honey,
with the high nutritional and beneficial properties of honey.
In Greece, apiculture does not involve the intense exploitation of bees and organised monocultures of mass produced, low cost & low quality honey.
Greek apiculture in protected Natura 2000 regions allows bees to feed exclusively on pure pollen, far away from chemicals, pesticides & industrial zones.
Due to the dry climate of Greece, honey has low water content and therefore it is slightly processed.
This has as a result a more aromatic, more dense and richer in flavours and ingredients honey.
